What to consider when choosing memory.

Memory stores data temporarily, keeping the files and apps you’re running open and available.

M-series chips include unified memory, which is more efficient than traditional RAM. It allows apps to efficiently share data between the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine — so everything you do is fast and fluid. The more memory you have, the more apps you can run simultaneously, the larger the AI models you can use, and the better everything will perform.

Can I add memory later?

Unified memory is not user accessible. If you think you’ll need additional memory, it’s a good idea to upgrade now.

How much memory you need depends on how you will use your Mac.

16GB

Ideal for browsing online, streaming movies, editing photos and videos, gaming, and running multiple everyday productivity apps.

24GB

Recommended if you will be multitasking across a large number of memory-intensive apps, including audio and video production workflows.

32GB

Best if you typically work on advanced projects that require enormous files and content libraries.

Upgrade your chip selection to choose even more memory options.

36GB

Best if you typically work on advanced projects that require enormous files and content libraries.

48GB

Ideal for professional workflows like photo editing, video editing, and music creation, or if you multitask across pro apps.

64GB

Ideal if you typically work on advanced projects that require enormous files and content libraries, if you multitask across pro apps, or if you are looking to run larger on-device AI models.

128GB

Recommended if you work on advanced projects with memory-intensive workflows, like running large language models.

What to consider when choosing storage.

Mac uses fast storage for your apps, documents, photos, movies, music, and other files and libraries.

How much storage you need depends on how you use your Mac. The more storage you have, the more files your Mac can hold and the faster it can access them when needed. A good way to figure out your storage needs is to check how much you’re using on your current computer. If you’re near your limit, it’s a good idea to consider a larger capacity.

How to check your storage

• On a Mac, select  > System Settings > General > Storage
• On a Windows PC, select Start > Settings > System > Storage

Can I add storage later?

Internal storage can’t be upgraded later. If you think you’ll need additional storage in the future, it’s a good idea to upgrade now.
